Thank you!

Wow, what a project!

The 1967 American League pennant race was one for the ages. Four teams, right down to the wire.

My Tigers survived, winning 92 games and the pennant outright, while the real team won 91 and missed a tie with Boston by one game.

But my Tigers were one game better against Boston than the real team was in the regular season, and that enabled my guys to win the pennant.

The World Series was over in a heartbeat. My Tigers silenced the St. Louis Cardinals bats in sweeping the series. The Cards scored just six runs in the four games.

It was a hell of a ride.

It's always satisfying to finish a project; mainly because (at least for me) it's always easy to start a project and not so easy to finish one!

I have had several teams in the past "choke" in my projects. The 1978 Yankees, the 1990 Tigers, the 2003 Brewers and the 1972 Tigers all frittered away divisional leads in my replays with various tabletop games. But the 1967 Tigers finally got the monkey off my back!

I just wanted to thank everyone who followed this project, casually or not. I also appreciate the comments that were posted on the Delphi Forum.

The only thing left to do is to update the statistics. I am only through 116 games, so it will take me a little bit to catch up. When I do, I will post in the forum.

I think it's pretty cool that after 161 games, my Tigers and the real team both had 91-70 records. Only, in my replay, Dick McAuliffe didn't hit into a season-ending double play!

SERIES MVP: Willie Horton (two two-run homers, and both were game-winning hits---in Game 1 and Game 4)

The Cardinals never got rolling. Tigers pitching was dominant, and the Tigers hit six home runs in the Series to the Cardinals' one. Lou Brock was 4-for-16, yet his slugging percentage was .625 because his four hits were for the cycle. Yet Brock was never a factor.

The Cardinals won 101 games but their bats were totally silenced---just 21 hits in four games.

DET wins, 4-0.

TIGERS WIN!!!!!!

Champagne bottle corks popped in the Tigers clubhouse on Sunday as the team swept a twinbill from the California Angels to win the American League pennant.

In the clinching nightcap, the Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 lead by the fourth inning as Denny McLain was cruising on the mound.

But the Angels weren't going to go quietly into the Detroit night.

Buck Rodgers hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, and Don Mincher added a two-run shot (his third of the series) in the eighth to make the score 5-4 as the Tiger Stadium crowd squirmed with nervousness.

Had the Tigers lost the second game, a one-game playoff against Boston for the pennant would have been played on Monday at a site TBD via coin flip.

But closer Fred Gladding pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the pennant.

Game 1 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals will be played on Wednesday in Detroit.

Bob Gibson will face Mickey Lolich.

Home stretch: Tigers in the thick of it!

Seven games remain. The Tigers are 88-67. If they win at least four of the remaining seven games, they will win the AL pennant outright.

A 3-4 record will give them 91 wins, and they will be tied with the Boston Red Sox, who will finish with 91 wins, not 92 as they did in real life because my Tigers were one game better against Boston than the real 1967 Tigers.

My Tigers were one game worse against Chicago, but the real White Sox finished with 89 wins, so in my replay they will only have 90 wins.

Against Minnesota, my Tigers were two games better against the Twins than the 1967 team. So in my version of the pennant race, the Twins will finish with 89 wins.

It's all there for my Tigers. Just win four of seven games.

The remaining schedule: one game at Washington, two at New York, and back-to-back doubleheaders at home vs. California.
